Gentlemen, you SHOULD be doing Reformer Pilates!
We don't think enough men are aware of the major benefits of Reformer Pilates - so, let us share them with you! π©πΌπ«
Do you struggle with postural issues? Reformer Pilates has a strong focus on posture, engaging and strengthening muscles that are often neglected. Regular Pilates go-ers often report posture as being one of the first improvements they note π§πΌ
Do you want to improve your general strength? Reformer Pilates allows us to focus on the smaller muscles that are often missed in big compound exercises. By strengthening these muscles you can enhance your overall strength πͺ
Is your balance is beginning to deteriorate? Reformer Pilates requires a lot of core strength, which in turn is going to assist with your overall balance and stability. It also includes a lot of unilateral work, allowing you to work on any imbalances you may have π€Έ
Check out some of our guys reaping the benefits of Reformer Pilates. Will we be seeing you soon?
June is BOWEL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH and today is Red Apple Day π an annual giving day to support the work of Bowel Cancer Australia.
Following on from Men’s Health Week, we took the opportunity to sit down with our owner, DJ to discuss his experience with Bowel Cancer, the 3rd deadliest cancer in men.
This was such an insightful discussion, from identifying his first signs and symptoms and the important role exercise played during and after his diagnosis and treatment.
Early detection is key π and exercise can have such an important positive impact on a patients experience with treatment.

Let's talk about exercising in Winter π₯Ά
It is very common to struggle with motivation during the cooler months of the year when it comes to exercising. I think we would all rather to stay snuggled up in front of our woodfire. Those 5am alarms and 5 layers to get warm are not very appealing!
Although the cold weather isn't ideal, there are ample benefits to getting outside, staying active and maintaining your usual exercise routine. Throughout the cooler months we can often spend more time indoors than we usually do, this can cause us to suffer from other health issues like a Vitamin D deficiency. So, although it's cold, keep in mind that it is still important to head outdoors, and what better way to warm up than doing your workout in the sun! π
Head over to our website to check out our blog post on ways you can stay motivated during the cooler months, like staying accountable, implementing variety into your workouts and dressing for the weather - https://www.360healthclinic.com.au/keeping-motivated-through-the-cooler-months
If you are struggling to get motivated, reach out to our team of qualified trainers to keep you accountable and increase your motivation during the cooler months! π€©
This year MS Australia are advocating for the Diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis among Australian’s to encourage those with MS to share their stories and raise awareness within their communities π§
MS is when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and damages the fatty material surrounding the nerves. As the fatty tissue surrounding the nerves breaks down during an MS attack (demyelination), patches of nerves become exposed leading to damage and scarring, affecting the nerve's ability to communicate messages to the brain and other parts of the body resulting in a range of symptoms that can include a loss of motor function (e.g. walking and hand and arm function, loss of sensation, pain, vision changes and changes to thinking and memory). (https://www.msaustralia.org.au/what-is-multiple-sclerosis-ms/ ).
Many of the symptoms associated with MS can be reduced through regular exercise. MS sufferers have reported the following benefits that they gave noticed with MS and regular exercise -
π€© Reduced fatigue levels & increased energy levels
π΄ Improved endurance (cardiovascular fitness) & muscular strength
π€ΈβοΈ Improved balance & coordination, assisting with reducing the risk of falls
π¦Ύ Improved posture & flexibility
πΌ Improved mood, confidence & sense of wellbeing
π€ Improved alertness & concentration
Before starting any exercise program, it is always important to discuss with your GP or an Allied Health Professional to ensure exercise is safe for you. It is also a good idea to seek prescription of an exercise program by making an appointment with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist to design an individual program for you.
Give us a call today to discuss how we can help you be on your way to managing your MS symptoms πͺ

Asthma affects 1 in 9 Australians π«
Although there is no cure, in a majority of cases asthma can be well managed when effective measures are in place.
Asthma is a condition in which your airways become inflamed when exposed to certain triggers, affecting children through to adults. Triggers may include cold/flu viruses, smoke or dust, mould, exercise, strong smells/scents or changes in weather.
Daily exercise helps to improve asthma by increasing your lungs capacity to maximise the amount of oxygen your body can utilise. As well as helping to increase endurance, reduce inflammation, strengthen muscles and improve cardiovascular fitness which improves blood flow and the delivery of oxygen to the lungs.
Some helpful tips for exercising with asthma -
π Always warm up before starting any exercises
π Keep your mouth and nose covered when exercising in cold temperatures outdoors
π Limit exercise outdoors if the air quality is poor
π Always include a cool down period at the end of your exercise session
The best types of exercise for someone with asthma involve brief bursts of exertion and gentle, low intensity activities. Some of the most recommended exercises are swimming, walking, cycling, and resistance training.
However, it's important to remember exercise prescription for those with chronic health conditions should be individualised. Our team of Accredited Exercise Physiologists are well equipped to work with you to move safely and effectively with asthma.
Over the weekend Jess and Lucy attended @essa_au Research to Practice conference at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
As Accredited Exercise Physiologists our team are always learning to ensure we are delivering the most up-to-date, evidence-based practice to our clients.
Some of our big takeaways included exercise prescription for rheumatological and cardiac conditions, new assessment and movement batteries for children with motor impairments and that dog owners are more likely to be physically activate than non-dog owners πΆ ππΌβοΈ π
It’s always great to hear Brendan from @noigroup speaking about the pain experience. We come away from every presentation with something new to implement every time.
As we reach the end of the week, I am sure we are all glad to see the end of the dreaded first week back at school after school holidays π

Fay has been attending 360 Health Clinic since September 2023 and previously in 2021 after her hip replacement surgery. Fay is also a regular attendee of our Over 50's Group Fitness classes at @360fitnesstamworth
Fay has worked consistently with our team to live pain free and easily accomplish day-to-day tasks. She can do a shoulder stretch with no pain which she has not been able to do in over 10 years.

The 21st March is World Down Syndrome Day π
A day which aims to raise awareness for those living with Down Syndrome and put a stop to harmful stereotyping.

π©· ENDOMETRIOSIS AWARENESS MONTH π©·
Endometriosis (or Endo) is a chronic health condition characterised by the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterine cavity. It effects 1 in 10 women and can cause a wide range of symptoms including pelvic pain, inflammation and bloating.
While exercise may feel like the last thing you want to do, particular modes of exercise can have profound effects on the management of symptoms πΈ
Exercise such as slow pilates or yoga are excellent ways to calm the nervous system, bringing us back the from ‘fight or flight’ mode (commonly activated as a result of Endo symptoms) and in to our ‘rest and digest’ mode π
Regular moderate intensity exercise has also been shown to assist in the management of Endo through anti-inflammatory effects. This may include reformer pilates, strength training, or steady-state cardio such as walking or swimming.
βοΈ To learn more, why don’t you join us on April 21st for our first Women’s Wellness event talking all things endo and PCOS. Booking link in bio.
LET'S TALK LOWER BACK PAIN π₯
Lower back pain affects many people in a variety of ways. It can be the result of injury injury or medical condition, heavy manual labour at work, or even just sitting for too long and can be described as sharp, dull or even stiff. Depending on the severity of an individual's pain it can affect multiple aspects of their everyday life such as personal care, household chores, going to work or even enjoying their social life.
It is important to focus on mobilising and strengthening the muscles that are surrounding the pain site, including trunk and glutes to help manage or prevent any pain as well as improve range of motion. The muscles around the area may tighten due to avoiding use but exercising can help these muscles relax putting less strain on the joints and nerves.
Exercise types that are recommended for rehabilitating the lower back are -
ποΈβοΈ Strengthening exercises (weight lifting)
πβοΈ Posture improving activities (walking or swimming)
π§βοΈ Stretching activities (pilates or yoga)
If you struggle with back pain or know someone that does, we are here to help! Get in contact with us today!

"My name is Elaine Elias I have been a member of 360 since it opened. I was attending the gym more for my mental health, until I saw a picture of myself two years ago and decided I needed to really up my training and change my eating habits.
So November 2022 I started on a weight loss journey and had Emily help me achieve my goals. Emily has been amazing in keeping me on track and has been with me this whole journey. Emily measured me from the beginning and as of last week I have lost a total of 58 cm from my body.
I feel better mentally and still allow for having flexibility with my food. It has taken me a year to achieve this goal and I’m still setting my sights on more but the thing I’m proud of is I haven’t put on any weight since starting my journey.
I’m starting to enjoy coming to gym and look forward to my training with Emily and feel awesome when I’m done. I couldn’t have achieved it without her support and keeping me focused on my goals. I’ve always loved 360, I’ve made some wonderful life-long friends and I love the social aspect of having a well deserved coffee after training.
The 360 team are warm friendly and always up for a laugh and above all they all want you to be the best version of yourself and make you feel comfortable."
This is an incredible success story from one of Emily's regular Personal Training clients. Keep up the great work Elaine, we are excited to see what you can achieve πͺ

GENTLEMEN! We finally have the perfect class option for you!
Introducing our very first π MEN'S REFORMER PILATES π to Quirindi
Now, do not underestimate the power of this piece of equipment! It will make you just as sore as the weights rack ποΈβοΈ Reformer Pilates comes with an abundance of benefits that you can see and feel for yourself once you get started.
You may be questioning, well what are those benefits they speak of? Let me educate you;
βοΈ Increased mobility - As we age, our balance and coordination decreases. However, mobility training can strengthen the muscles that we use to maintain correct body alignment and stability helping you to improve balance and coordination.
π€ Chronic pain management - By gently stretching and moving the affected joints and muscles, you can start to reduce stiffness and discomfort in your troubled areas.
π Decrease risk of injury - If you have stiff/tight muscles and joints you will be more likely to encounter an injury when exercising or during day-to-day activities. However, Pilates exercises can strengthen your muscles and joints and improve your flexibility to assist in overall injury prevention.
We have very limited availability left for the launch next Tuesday 6th February at 5:00pm, to secure your spot -

Every 4 minutes in Australia someone is diagnosed with cancer, currently 1 in 3 cancer cases can be prevented π€
Alongside reducing risk of cancer, exercise is also incredibly beneficial for the management of cancer both during treatment and in recovery π¨
HOW?
Exercise drives changes in immune function, metabolism, hormones, systemic inflammation and blood vessel development which can assist in preventing the progression of cancer.
Cancer is associated with excessive loss in muscle mass, which leads to functional impairments, reduced quality of life and increases levels of inactivity. Exercise can prevent skeletal muscle loss and preserve muscle strength πͺ
π Exercise can assist in reducing adverse side effects from chemotherapy and other treatments.
π Exercise reduces cancer related fatigue.
π Exercise assists in preventing complications and comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease.
For those unsure of where to start or needing a little assistance, our Exercise Physiologists are trained to provide exercise treatment to individuals with chronic health conditions including cancer and can assist by providing individualised exercise programs to suit each person. Get in touch today, we would love to hear from you! π
The kids are back to school! So why not take this opportunity to fill your cup and give back to yourself after all of your hard work over the festive/school holiday season? π Or use this as your reminder to get back into what you love and book your classes today!
There is no better way to give back to yourself than some self care, whether that be reading, skin care, a hot coffee or a Reformer Pilates class π€©π§βοΈ
Let us introduce you to Steve… ππΌ

π CLIENT SPOTLIGHT π
In February 2022 Sue came in to 360 Health Clinic with a goal. She wanted to climb to Mount Everest base camp with her daughter.
In October 2023 she did it!
A dedicated hockey player with a love for adventuring, Sue came in and had an appointment with our Exercise Physiologist, Jess. The only thing slowing her down were a few old injuries and Osteoarthritis in her knees. Sue made excellent progress working with Jess on programs to address her primary concerns. From there, she began working with our Physical Therapist, Emily to keep her motivated and continuously improving her stamina and fitness in the lead up to the climb.
Out of Sue’s control at the start of the trip, there were a few set backs. Sue wasn't sure she was even going to make it to the starting point. However, everything fell into place she made it to the start and completed the climb (in two days less than planned).
Congratulations Sue on your massive achievement! We are so inspired by your strength, (stubbornness at times) and true courage. You set yourself a goal, believed in yourself and got it done. You are a superstar! π€©
What a successful year for S&C 2023!
We saw huge improvements in strength and fitness in all of the students we worked with some students doubling their performance results in just one 10-week block.
We developed a range of skills including strength, endurance, agility, acceleration, injury prevention, plyometircs and power.
Using the success of last year’s programs, combined with feedback from the participants we are excited to offer another program in Term 1 2024!
Term 1 2024 Program begins February 5th. Follow the link in our Instagram bio to register your interest! ππΌβοΈ

π CLIENT SPOTLIGHT π
Frances has been coming to 360 Health Clinic since July this year. She was wanting to manage her weight and increase muscle tone but was unsure what exercises she could do due to her arthritis and pain in her feet following bilateral foot fusions π¦Ά
Frances has been working with one of our Exercise Physiologists and since starting has noticed significant improvements in both her strength and balance. Alongside her regular gym sessions, Frances has been incorporating the exercises she learns into her daily routine, stopping to do some resistance exercises in the park when she walks her dog and balance exercises in the kitchen while doing the dishes. Frances is always willing to give exercises a go in order to improve her abilities and reach her goals.
Keep up the amazing work Frances! π€©
One of our superstar clients recently had a scan on her shoulder and was kind enough to allow us to share her results. Looking at this scan you would automatically assume this individual would be in a lot of pain and have poor range of motion and strength, correct?
Interestingly, this client has been attending two sessions per week consistently and has managed to regain range of motion so she can hang the washing on the line π€© as well as be able to lift grocery bags from floor to bench πͺ
This is an amazing example of pain not always equally pathology. It goes so show what you can do with strong muscles supporting the joints!
Term 4 has seen yet another successful start to our Youth Strength & Conditioning Program! πͺπΌ
So far our sessions have focused on agility, injury prevention, acceleration and strength. This has allowed students to familiarise themselves with gym equipment and technique before moving into our second block with strength focused training to finish the term.
The students are enjoying themselves and we are proud of the progress they’re all making! π€©ππΌ

WORLD DIABETES DAY
One Australian is diagnosed with diabetes every 5 minutes.
Diabetes is a chronic health condition that occurs either because the body cannot produce enough insulin or because cells in the body don’t respond properly to insulin, resulting in high blood glucose levels.
Prolonged high blood glucose levels can lead to many more health problems.
Exercise can help to prevent Diabetes as well as manage the condition in two ways:
π©Έ Our muscles use glucose for fuel, reducing the amount of glucose in the blood stream
π©Έ Increasing the amount of insulin receptors in our muscles, which means that more glucose can be absorbed out of the blood stream.
It is recommended that individuals with Diabetes should exercise for 150 minutes or more at a moderate to high intensity and incorporate strength training at least twice a week ποΈβοΈ

This week we have shared with you our core values - three pillars which guide the way we work.
As part of this reflective practice, we were also encouraged to create a mantra, something which encapsulates what we do. And after brainstorming words and phrases we unanimously decided on 'movement that matters'.
As a team of exercise professionals, movement is what we do, however we believe we give that movement purpose. Whether it be movement to
π€ΈβοΈ Ease the pain
π€ΈβοΈ Recover from injury
π€ΈβοΈ Get back to work
π€ΈβοΈ Reduce the risk or manage of health conditions
π€ΈβοΈ Be able to play with grandkids
π€ΈβοΈ To feel good
TRUST
Trust forms the foundation of any healthy relationship and we believe is reflected through
Integrity - Competence - Consistency - Loyalty - Openness
We use these five pillars to guide the way in which approach and deliver services to assist our clients to improve their physical and/or mental health. Knowing that clients are often sharing with us with parts of their personal journey which we treat with the highest level of privacy and confidentiality.
RESPECT
As Accredited Practitioners and Qualified Health Professionals we take pride in the respect that we show each other, our clients and our community. We respect the individual needs and goals of each client by providing individualised exercise prescription and programming. We recognise that our clients' health and wellbeing may be ever-changing, and so handle it with the utmost care, consideration and confidentiality.
HIGH QUALITY
Our team has recently done some reflective work together to establish our core values here at 360 Health Clinic and we are so pleased to share them with you all.
We all strive to and believe we do provide high quality services to all of our clients. Whether this be through respecting our client's time by being punctual and fulfilling the entire duration of their consultation, being innovative and providing up to date knowledge and skills to all practices, having a passion for what we do and providing high energy sessions to our clients or the rapport we build with each and every one of our clients.
TAMWORTH REFORMER PILATES
How many Reformers can you count!? π§
We are so excited to be teaching (and participating in π) Reformer Pilates classes from our original home @360fitnesstamworth
These classes are a great whole body workout, low impact but pack a punch (and burn π₯) in all the right places.
If you have pre-existing pain or injuries we recommend you first see one of our Accredited Exercise Physiologists in order to ensure you are safely participating in these classes.
π¦Ώ World Osteoporosis Day π¦Ύ
Our bones are continuously going through a process of bone remodelling, where old bone cells are disposed of, and new bone cells are produced to replace them. As we age the rate that new bone cells are produced can decrease, resulting in a reduction of bone formation and creating a reduction in the structural integrity of our bones. This is what can lead to Osteoporosis.
While you aren’t able to replace your bones, it is possible to strengthen them, and this can be done through exercise. Physical activity can effectively stimulate bone osteogenesis (new bone formation), leading to stronger bones.
So what sort of exercises should you be doing to manage your bone health?
Resistance training
Weight bearing impact loading exercises
Balance training
Here are a few examples of some ways in which you can promote your bone health. REMEMBER, it is always important to seek the guidance of a health professional and our Exercise Physiologists are here to help!
Last weekend our team (minus a couple) had the honour and privilege to attend the 2023 White Elephant Ball, again as the Platinum Sponsors.
Now in its 9th year, the White Elephant Ball raises funds to support @batyraus to deliver youth mental health programs right here in our local region.
Congratulations to the @whiteelephantball committee for putting on yet another incredible evening! We had a great night ππ»π πΈ @_alpine_films_
Today is World Menopause Day!
An opportunity for us to start a conversation about a stage in every woman's life that is perhaps not spoken about enough, but one which has a significant impact on a woman's health and wellbeing. πΈ
Menopause is the permanent end of menstruation and results in a range of changes in the body and a time of significant adjustment. Menopause occurs in most women around the age of 50 and can last up to 10 years.
The change in hormone levels during menopause places women at increased risk of developing many health conditions including breast cancer, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, stroke, bone fractures, obesity and poor mental health.
But we are here to help! π Exercise plays a key role in the prevention and management of these conditions and can also help to reduce the severity of menopausal symptoms. Our team can assist you by providing appropriate exercise prescriptions for the management of the symptoms YOU are experiencing and prevention of chronic health conditions.
We recognise it can be an overwhelming time and no two woman's experience is the same. Speaking with a variety of health professionals will open up a number of management options to help you navigate this life stage with confidence and comfort.

π WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY π
We all feel anxious, sad, moody or low sometimes, but when these feelings persist it can become a serious health condition. Mental health is a key component of overall health and wellbeing, but approximately half of all Australian’s experience a mental health condition at some point during their lifetime, the two most common of these being anxiety and affective disorders (depression).
Ways exercise can benefit your mental health include -
π Exercise regulates the same neurotransmitters that are targeted by antidepressant medications
π Exercise releases endorphins which are hormones that have a calming effect on the brain
π Exercise increases dopamine levels which improves mood and feelings of wellness. Dopamine also helps to improve attention and drive motivation, which is often low for those struggling with mental health.
π Exercise elevates norepinephrine which wakes the brain up and gets it going
π Exercise positively affects areas of the brain that are responsible for how we perceive and regulate emotions
π Exercise increases BDNF which is a protein in the brain that encourages neurons to connect and grow and helps the brain to adapt.
Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists work closely with clients that have mental health issues and assist them in using a regular exercise regime to improve their mental health and reduce the symptoms of poor mental health while creating new, healthy habits.
If you or someone you know could benefit from regular exercise to improve your mental health, get in touch with us today! π

A little update for our Gunnedah friends...
Sadly, our automatic door at the front of the clinic has decided it has seen better days π
So for the next little while (until a new door arrives) we will be using our side entry on Abbott Street.
To our clients using mobility aides and wheelchairs, we are still able to open the front door for you πͺπΌ we'll just be keeping an eye out for you arriving.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Today was Ellie's second last day in our Gunnedah clinic before she's off on maternity leave to welcome her next bundle of joy to her family. We are so excited and cannot wait to meet Ellie's new little addition βΊοΈ
Ellie's last class on Saturday morning is currently fully booked, but keep your eye out for any cancellations to sneak in π€©
Last week Sophie and Emily had the privilege of attending the Tamworth Links for Life Disability Expo. The girls thoroughly enjoyed their day and said it was great to see so many of our clients at the event π€©
It was such a great event with so many opportunities to meet new clients and local service providers. We hope to see you all next year!
Today is R U OK? Day π
R U OK empowers people to meaningfully connect and lend support to those around them. You don't have to be an expert to offer a listening ear. This one conversation could change their life.
Many of us spend a large majority of our time with our colleagues, so essentially they are probably some of the first people to recognise when we have been acting out of character. If you notice one someone in your workplace not quite themselves, be sure to reach out and ask the simple question of "Are you okay?".
For more helpful tips on how you can encourage these conversations with those around you, check out - https://www.ruok.org.au/what-were-about
And remember, every day is R U OK day.
